I see the faces gather near
– Those who choose to wander here –
Some have come along to stay,
While others pause, and move away;
And waste away the year
Slowly, day by day.
I wonder at their motivation,
They gape upon my expectation.
They claim to know not what to do,
For too many, this rings true
With dawning confirmation.
Little work from so few.
A book or pen and paper too,
Is not too much to ask of you.
Then do the work; and do your best;
While ignoring all the rest
Who choose exactly what they do.
I doubt they’ll pass the Test.
When attitude gets in the way
Dictating how they spend their day
“I don’t work … I’m too tough”
But have they got the right stuff
And do they dare to say
That enough Is enough
I urge, I plead, cajole, react,
Try to keep my spirit intact,
While many faces look upon
The many others who ramble on.
While they dwell upon the fact
The year will soon be gone
The future soon will be the past,
The days they move by, much too fast.
To waste them here , what can I say
It happens to me every day.
How much longer will this last
They count the days as they slip away.
So many blank faces come and go,
I pause and wonder, do they know
Their future, though it is uncertain
Now’s the time to draw the curtain
Upon their efforts, little though
They meander, not yet hurtin’
Why don’t they try, before they quit,
Help me to know the point of it
Though the times be not always fair
Where they go, they know not where
If they’d just move, one little bit
Show me that, indeed they care.
And now my work is almost done,
I trust the journey had some fun.
And when offered a book, you can say ‘Read it’;
When asked for a comment, you say, ‘Said it’.
Your journey has only just begun,
For that I’ll give you Credit
What the future will bring, what is their fate
I pray for them it’s not too late;
They yell, they shout, they move about
As I and others have no doubt.
They sit … They pause … They wait
The year is gone … Over and Out –
